Garbage talks 007 to the Times

garbage-withsingle.jpgGarbage, the band that sings the title song for The World Is Not Enough, gives a glimpse of what the video will look like and how they prepared for the part in an interview with the Sunday Times (London).

Shirley Manson, the group’s lead singer tells the Sunday Times that the music video is sort of a “mini-Bond movie” and that unlike some videos that include clips from the movie, this one doesn’t.

Manson told the times that an android version of herself “sets out to cleanse the world of evil and it kills the real me – with the classic kiss of death, in true Bond style.”

MTV Europe also has some additional information about the video: “The video’s Bond-esque storyline features an android who kills lead singer Shirley with a kiss, then plays a star-studded gig in her place. In true Bond style, evil scientists have planted a bomb inside the android, and as the song reaches its climax, it’s explosions galore ! The shoot required Shirley to kiss a girl acting as her double – and she was heard to quip “This isn’t the worst way to spend your day.” ”

007 NEWS has learned that the video will premiere on MTV on October 19 — the same day the DVDs and a compilation of all Bond songs will arrive. The title song will not be available in US stores as a single, and will officially debut on radio stations on October 11, but some markets have already begun to air the song. According to the Sunday Times article, the single will be released in the UK on November 15, and the album on November 22.

You can listen to the song on at least two of the official sites. Radioactive, the soundtrack’s and Shirley Manson’s label, has made the movie version and a “chilled out remix” available for download. MSN also has the song remix streaming in Windows Media Player format on their site.

Manson also tells the paper that she’s been a Bond fan since childhood, saying, “It was the first time that I’d seen women in any sexual context. It probably shaped my view of what being an adult is, what being a woman is.”

No tryout, Garbage got the only call
The paper also interviewed Bond composer David Arnold for the article who denied a report in Music Week that Robbie Williams, Jamiroquai and Björk had auditioned for the part.

Arnold also says that the song was not written with a specific singer in mind. He said he wrote a song that would be right for the movie — not the type of song that one artist might sing.
