Major labels don’t care about bands

Garbage drummer Butch Vig has revealed the band wanted to self-release their new album ‘Not Your Kind Of People’ because they didn’t like the experience of being on major record labels.

The group are putting out the record, their first since 2005’s ‘Bleed Like Me’, on their own imprint Stunvolume on May 14. Speaking to NME, Vig said it “didn’t make sense” for the band to be on a major label, commenting:

We started out on independent labels both in the UK and in the US and then they ended up getting bought up by bigger corporate labels. In the end, no one from those labels seems to care or know who you are as a band and we just didn’t like that experience.

Recorded in Atwater Village in Los Angeles, it will be the group’s first not to be recorded in Madison, Wisconsin, the city where they formed in 1994.

Recording the new album, Vig said, was “so easy to fall back into”. He added: “We wanted to embrace exactly who we are as a band and just make a Garbage record, we like to do what we like to do and we’ll do that and not give a shit about what anyone else thinks.”
