Shirley Manson: Kid A is Garbage

Shirley Manson, Garbage singer, has weighed in on the Kid A debate, and her verdict is a big negative.

Following the release of one of the most aggressively promoted and intensely anticipated releases, Kid A continues to divide listeners. Manson, speaking through the studio diaries posted on her band’s official web site has weighed in strongly against the latest Radiohead record. “They don’t sound like they’re doing what comes naturally,” she wrote. “It sounds too forced.”

Manson’s reproach for the largely electronic record isn’t the first in a wave of backlash against the album, nor is it the most outspoken–Rolling Stone recently printed an entire column debunking the record–her disinterest is one of the first to come from a major figure in the pop world.

“I just can’t get into it,” Manson wrote. “Whilst I admire the determined and certainly understandable effort to throw off their “Saviour of Rock Music” mantle I can’t help but miss what makes them great.”
