Two New Tracks On Garbage B-Sides/Rarities Set
Garbage, as previously reported, will release a compilation of B-sides and rarities next year. Drummer Butch Vig told the U.K. music weekly New Musical Express that the set will include at least two new songs from the band: “‘Til The Day I Die” and “Silence Is Golden.”
Vig tells the magazine that the new songs are “very different for us,” and that “Silence Is Golden” is “a different groove for us. It’s simpler in some ways, but also raw-sounding in places and also orchestral in a guitar sense. It’s really exciting.” Of “‘Til The Day I Die,” Vig explained that the song features frontwoman Shirley Manson singing falsetto.
The two songs were written in three days, and the band plans to record more while on the road through the end of this year: “We’re taking a mini-studio on the road with us, and though it’s hard to get motivated to do more work, it does alleviate the boredom.”
Last week, the band was in London shooting the video for “The World Is Not Enough,” the theme song for the upcoming eponymous James Bond film. Vig says that the song features a 60-piece orchestra, and commented: “It’s pretty dark and sweeping, but it’s pretty Bond, too. It’s cool to be part of the whole Bond thing.” The World Is Not Enough will open in U.S. theatres on Nov. 19; the single will be released in the coming weeks.
Currently, Garbage is on an Australian tour, which continues through Oct.16. Afterward, the band comes to the U.S. to headline the MTV-sponsored “Campus Invasion” tour, beginning Oct. 20 in Denver, Colorado.
