Garbage Not Surprised By Album Of The Year Nomination

After a year of ups and downs for Garbage, the band turned quite a few heads on Tuesday morning when its second album, “Version 2.0,” received a pair of Grammy nominations — for Best Rock Album as well as the prestigious award for Album of the Year.

Even though early sales figures posted by the new record were a tad more sluggish than Garbage hoped, “Version 2.0” has proven to have long-term legs, much like that of the group’s 1995 self-titled debut. And though no one could have predicted the Grammy nods for “Version 2.0,” Garbage says that once in the studio, it became obvious that they were making a much better album than its first.

“We really kind of wanted to take everything that we discovered making the first album,” said Garbage’s Butch Vig, “and try to push it further out. We really had no idea what were doing when we made the first album.” [28.8 RealAudio]

Garbage has just finished work on a video clip for a fourth single, “When I Grow Up,” and in February Shirley Manson and the boys will head out on the road with Alanis Morissette.
