Set for release on March 19th on Warner Bros.
With 12-million sales since they burst onto the music scene with their self-titled 1995 debut album, Garbage are set to issue their ‘best of’ collection ‘Absolute Garbage’ on March 19th on Warner Bros.

Led by the iconic figure of Shirley Manson, Garbage have enjoyed phenomenal success with albums such as ‘Garbage’ (1995), ‘Version 2.0’ (1998), ‘Beautiful Garbage’ (2001) and ‘Bleed Like Me’ (2005).
Garbage have also forged a reputation as one of the strongest live bands around having toured with U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Alanis Morissette to name but a few. Performances at Glastonbury, Reading, Download and T In The Park have also established Garbage as one of the favourites of the UK festival circuit.

wonders how long before garbage.com bring us the news
So does this mean that “It’s All Over But The Crying” is set to be the single out April 5th?
That’s what I’m assuming at the moment because otherwise it would have been mentioned on the track listing.
What is written above is exactly what is on the press release.
i cannot find that on garbage.com, where did you get that press release :S.
Jose rodriguez: it’s not on garbage.com they most likely forgot the FTP details it’s been so long since that site was updated. We got the press release from the same place we get all the official press releases from the record company itself (eg: Warner).
This topic can be discussed in full in our forum where unconfirmed news was broke by long term member moorzilka a couple of days prior to the official announcement.

so, is IAOBTC really the new single? Couldn’t they record a new song??
lame. B-side compilation? DVD release? come on!
are they gonna tour?
I concur. I want a DVD loaded with all the videos that weren’t on the VHS (which came out a billion years ago), and extras. I want a b-side compilation, too. They have enough b-sides by now to release a double – maybe even triple – CD set. But this greatest hits sounds awesome! IAOBTC is an interesting addition to it, and it makes me also wonder – along with everyone else – if that’s their next single. I hope there’s a new song that they release.
This news from NME.com says there is a new song:

Is it possible to see a scanned copy of the original press release? It’s funny that the band would only choose 2 or 3 songs from their latter two albums (BG and BLM) as Shirley stated that Run Baby Run was her favourite single/video in the BLM era!
Perhaps this is the record companies selection of favourite tunes (also surprising is the choise of Bleed like me on the album as it was only a single in North America).

Garbage.com won’t carry anything until the details are confirmed. Despite the press release, the track list is not confirmed. The media is not confirmed yet either — but it all will be shortly :)
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! oh MY GOD this is such a surprise! such an amazing surprise! yessssssss! i flipped out while reading this!!!
New album in 2007? C’mon… this isn’t even funny.
Speaking of IAOBTC I for one don’t think this is gonna be a new single… Rather smth recorded hell-knows-what-long-time-ago and never-before-heard… Huh better that than nothing.
I mean what the hell… legal issues, huh… We all want a videos/live DVD and a b-side compilation, don’t we?
Irish_scott:
As Kyle mentions NME are reporting that there will be a new song. On the press release we got this wasn’t listed.
Due to the fact this press release has been issued over 4 months in advance, expect changes to it.
me:
I doubt they will tour. The press release just mentions that Absolute Garbage will be coming out and that will be the tracks included. The band don’t really need to tour this album at all. Warner could just be cashing in on the fact that Shirley is due to release her Solo album in 2007.
MarcWild:
What is written about Absolute Garbage above is the same as what is written on the press release. The press release is simply a plain sheet of paper with the Garbage logo in the center at the top of the page the information below that and contact details for someone at the London office of Warner at the bottom.
Tiago and I have been getting press releases from various sources since the days of Mushroom Records so over the years we have built up a number of contacts at the record companies that deal with Garbage, this is 100% official news.
Shell:
Are you sure you haven’t forgotten the FTP details ;) – No thanks for the updates.
Amanda:
Calm down :D

This is progress. UK Record companies tend to release greatest hits CDs with a bonus DVD these days so we may get the videos as well if we are lucky and Warner follow suit.
when did “It’s All Over But the Crying” become a single? and is there going to be a b-sides CD, and video collection on DVD. and what about “Breaking Up the Girl”, “Androgyny”, “Run Baby Run”, and “Sex is Not the Enemy”? they’re singles too!
It makes me angry that because of it’s pop content the line of beautiful garbage singles are shunned. Androgony was different, Breaking up the girl was actually quite heartfelt. 5 singles have been picked from the first two records so why not give the millenuim records the due they deserve. I’m fed up of hearing people who say I like Garbage but only the first two records! The truth is BG and BLM were just more progressive and less angst ridden records but that does not demean the great melody and emotion they contain. Run Baby run in my opinion is one of the most powerful and well shaped of all thier tunes. It should have been a big hit, its strong and is very catchy and should have been on this complimation as a single.
I wanna buy it,there my favorite tracks. When I will buy it,I will sing it when I’m alone at home.
I SOOOOOO can’t wait for this to come out, it’s VERY exciting. I TOO would LOVE a dvd from them to surface – perhaps a live dvd??? If not, then the videos?!
This greatest hits is better than nothin, but i wont get my hopes up for a tour, Shirley is focusing on her solo now. I more excited to hear her new content with Billy Corgen especially, they could create something amazing.
